My group and I designed this prototype as a part of a project for a course we took at Uni. I wrote a blog entry about it, so if you’re interested you can read more about it in detail here.
The prototype was built using an arduino, tape, listers for posters and floor mats. A cross section of the prototype can be seen here:
We built the prototype to function as a keyboard, so the different wires correspond to Q, W, E, R etc. The goal of this was to ensure cross-platform compatibility – we wanted to implement a bluetooth module to connect the controller to smartphones and tablets instead of using a USB port.

You can try navigating the menu pressing Q,W,E in rapid succession to go right, or E,W,Q to go left. If you manage to start a game, press Q and S simultaneously to shoot. This short video demonstrates how it works.
